Merry Christmas!

I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2005. Thank you for your support in 2004.

This just in for Christmas: centrozoon's 'never trust' now available from the DGM shop (in the 'Pat Mastelotto' and 'New to the Shop' sections).

Check out the 'Bigger Space' mp3 snippet featuring me on drums and percussion.

And to warm you up... texas style...(Courtesy of Canadian Dennis Rodier).

Great Recipe: Tequila Christmas Cake (AKA Chasing the yuletide worm).

1 cup of water

1 tsp baking soda

1 cup of sugar

1 tsp salt

1 cup of brown sugar

lemon juice

4 large eggs

Nuts

1 bottle tequila

2 cups of dried fruit

Sample the tequila to check quality.

Take a large bowl, check the tequila again.

To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.

Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.

At this point it's best to make sure the tequila is still OK.

Try another cup... just in case.

Turn off the mixerer thingy.

Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.

Pick the frigging fruit up off floor.

Mix on the turner.

If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the tequila to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something.

Check the tequila.

Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.

No wait... shtrain the lemon juice and shift your nuts.

Add one table.

Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find.

Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over.

Don't forget to beat off the turner.

Finally, throw the bowl through the window.

Finish the tequila and wipe counter with the cat.

Stocking Stuffer News:

After 4 years the drum sample library for GIGASTUDIO I did with Grammy winning engineer Larry Seyer is done.

A long time ago for days and days, on an inordinate amount of drums, I did 8 to 16 velocity hits in each of the 8 areas you see in the photo (plus various rim hits) with several utensils (sticks, blasticks, brushes, mallets, rods)... I did crushes and drags and diddles... and then Larry & his assistant Stephen Orsak went to work editing, making additional rooms and midi files and now its Giga'fied. No loops just single hits and still it looks to be a 7 gig library.

It supposed to be debuted this January at NAMM but in the meantime here is a link to check out sounds:

Sad News

The TU tour has been cancelled.

A message from Trey Gunn:

Sadly, Pat and I have made the decision to cancel this November TU tour of the USA and Canada. What began as the very promising scenario of taking this wonderful duo out on the road, slowly mutated into something more and more difficult and more and more unpromising.

The short story is that the finances no longer added up. The longer story is, in the worst touring time of the last decade, we lost one of our key gigs right when the prospects of the tour were hanging on the edge.

Even more sadly, Pat had already unleashed our crew into the American void in a van with his gear on their way up to Seattle for our first show. And so our cash flow had begun. About the time they were around Denver, Colorado I ran the numbers again with the latest info and called Pat to suggest that we seriously ask ourselves the question: should we pull the whole tour now before it’s too late?

We spent the next day going through all the numbers trying to figure out a way to at least do some of the shows: Should we end in Chicago? Should we end in Denver? What if we only played Seattle, Portland and Chico, California? What if we started in Chicago and played through New York? All of this in hopes that we could get some playing time and get some of the shows recorded and filmed. We tried every scenario and each time it came down to this one thing: the longer we were out on the road the greater loss.

So we did the final thing and ran the numbers for a tour where we didn’t even play one single show. We looked at that number in horror and knew it was still the best call.

And here we are.

We are so disappointed. In part because Pat and I are such a wonderful duo and we rarely get the chance to play together. And in part, because we know so many people were looking forward to hearing us. They will have to continue to wait.

We send out our thanks to everyone who helped us try to make this work: Charlie Hewitt, Mary Jo Kazca and Seth Rappaport and Steve Martin at The Agency. We also thank all the promoters who reached out to help us and to the fans who wrote us such encouraging letters.

thanks again,

TU

October 20th 2004

Getting this TU tour together.

Vans/hotels/ad mats/t-shirts/venues... oh the venues... after 5 months of work by The Agency there are still TBA's.

The good news, this tour shall be like no other - TU should have some unexpected special guests sitting in almost every night (sorry I can't reveal their identities because what would happen if they fell out... dissapoinment/dispair/refunds?). Lets just say some of my favorite drummers in the world, members of bands that have at times co billed with Crimson, an outstanding singer that joined us last August and other possibilities await like the excitement of the unknown locals.

There are 2 guests I could reveal to you, because they have shown their level of commitment by already booking their own flights from Europe... so (drum roll)... in DC and Baltimore we will be joined by Markus and Bernhard from Centrozoon. Dueling Warr Guitars?

Further more we will have Crimson/ProjeKcts/CGT+2 co-producer/engineer Bill Munyon on house sounds. I say 'sounds' because I know Bill will do much more than just mix - I wouldn't be surprised to see Bill or his boffin buddy Cobb running laptop audio from front of house.

Munyon may even be around to sign at the merch booth, did I mention the merch booth might be our only hope for a profitable tour? Besides the stylish T-Shirt (or should I say TU shirt?) designed by Dennis Rodier, and the second pressing of our debut TU cd, we will have our first Official Live Bootleg CD! We hope to continue making a series of these OLB's from recording jams during this North American tour. Here's a free sample.

Please also note that the tourdates have been updated.

Wire Studio in Austin doing tracks for Peter Kingsberry reunion project with Cock Robin.

Peter lives in Paris and has left it to me to produce myself on this  first batch of tunes so I've enlisted Bill Munyon to help. Bill does much more than help!  Bill's the sonic & groove barometer.

Bill & I snagged the Wire studio, where we cut the CG3+2 record, so we could cut drums 'old school' on 16 track  2" tape. There are a few session photos of the minimalist kit (maybe more later).

Also added some photos from a session Trey and I did in Moscow for the Farlanders.

TU live recordings and photos wanted!!!

Later in the year Trey and I hope to release live CDs from both Russian TU and the TU + Kluster gigs in Helsinki/Tokyo. Lots of the recordings are missing sections so if anyone reading this has bootlegs please send a copy to us. If we use them we may give a you a 'recording engineer' credit.

Also send any good photo/video that we might be able to use.

Best to send to DGM and ask them to forward to (TU) us. Here's the address:

DGM c/o Amy (TU)

3550 Wilshire Blvd.

Suite 1520

LA, CA 90010

USA

**To clarify: we do have multitrack recordings of most all the KlusterTu gigs. However we have nothing from Russia. They did make board tapes the first two night in Moscow . . . we just never got them. Since we allowed cameras/videos/mini discs/ sketch pads and the like I know that lots of folks went home with tapes. . . . But we didn't.**

Happy Valentine's Day.

We had a white V day here in Texas.

Snow is an uncommon sight here so i thought i'd share a pic.

I've been busy in the garage drumming with my fav Gary Chaffee book and working with PT sessions sent by Kluster as well as creating, editing and moving sounds in an attempt to consolidate to a smaller rig.

However: I have had a sinus infection for almost three weeks and my left ear is completely blocked. . . whats that you say? i can't hear you. . . . so i may have redo everything when i find out what a hisssy mess I made.

Majic Mountain in Moscow taken by Trey Gunn

December 9th 2003

The Crimson tour ended on a very high note in Mexico City, one of the best shows ever,  followed by sad good-byes and early flights home.

Since getting home, besides unpacking, shopping with my daughter and celebrating my wife's BD,  I've been mixing TU and drumming on an 80's project with songs by Danny Wilde (my Rembrandt buddy) and Nick Trevisick (Kinks) featuring Nick Frost.

Next week I plan to master the TU cd and then get in a surround sound room with Bozzio to begin mixing the BoMo DVD before Christmas.

Happy holidays,

Here is an interview for you.

3rd of October 2003

Merhaba!

Life's been moving a bit to fast for me to post updates.

But now I take a slight pause as Chelsea-Basiktas soccer match demands everyone else's attention.

I am in Sariyer, Turkey, near Istanbul, working on an amazing ballet project with my brother (from another mother) Cenk Eroglu, with whom I was developing the Mastelottoman recordings a few years ago (before tragic events and the busy Crimsonizing took over my calendar - check this site vibration page for a clip) and whom you Crimheads might salute  for introducing me to the Turkish Nines that I bastardized as the groove for 'Message 22' and many other hidden nuggets.

This is the same Cenkster who supplied me, and Trey, the sounds that became HinduFizz for project 4 etc.

I am so lucky (again)  to be asked to add my tubthumping to such  bone chilling music.  This is a dance/poetry/art/music production  that  proposes to culminate in a show at Carnegie Hall in a few years as 'Hurrem' . The plot is built around the history of Suleyman the Magnificent and the slave girl Roxelana, a story well worth you websurfers researching, in fact you might also surf  for the Dasboot Museum in NYC and find the paintings of Ertugrul Ates, the man largely responsible for instigating this idea.

I'm due home in another  week to quickly prepare for the next round of Crimson terror touring in North America beginning on the west coast around Oct 27th - check the site for dates as they confirm and I hope all you interested gringos drop in.

I hope to soon post replies to those questions you curious posters asked in our guestbook.

I also have sent  pix from the Crimson Euro Tour to Jeff at  the Krimson News Road Cam that should be popping up soon and will try to add a page with some shots from Guitars Wars and Two Loon gigs.

You might also want to check out the Austin Animator Justin's website with contest music provided by me and many o'my pals projects.

Allibaba bye bye for now.
